Book Review: The Call of the Living Water by Alexis M. Melvin

✨ The Call of the Living Water by Alexis M. Melvin ✨

When the God of Living Water calls, will Suái be willing to risk her life and the lives of everyone she loves to answer?

Deep in the jungle of Paraguay, Suái’s tribe worships indifferent gods who withhold the life-giving rain unless their worshippers make costly sacrifices. However, when a missionary arrives speaking of the loving God of Living Water, Suái’s curiosity leads her down a dangerous path. Thrust into a new life with people who should consider her an enemy, Suái discovers the love and redemption of Jesus. Fifteen years later, she realizes the gift of salvation is worth sharing – even though it may cost her everything.

✨ My 25th (and last) read of 2025 ✨

What a wonderful read to wrap up 2025-- a year that tested me both mentally and spiritually, to say the least. This book grounded me in my faith, leaving me feeling inspired and in awe of God's purpose in my own life. I loved Suái's character; her grit and determination were tenacious and wrapped in the undeniable love of Jesus. From finding her faith to fulfilling God's calling on her heart, watching her grow spiritually throughout the novel was a pleasure to witness. Kenan was a God-fearing character-- witty, compassionate, and a man of the Lord. After hearing all of the wonderful reviews on this book, I knew I had to read it! Receiving it for Christmas was a pleasant surprise, as The Call of the Living Water has been one of my favorite reads all year! I cannot recommend this book enough! Beautifully written and articulated masterfully to demonstrate an incredible testament of God's calling and purpose in your life.
